JIMMY CORDOVA

My dad, Jimmy, was born in Alamosa, Colorado and was raised in San Acacio and Pueblo, Colorado.  Jimmy served in the United States Air Force from December 11, 1968 to December 7, 1972 as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist.  His ALS was connected to this time of service.

Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, archery and hiking.  He loved scuba diving and experienced his first dive in the Great Barrier Reef.  Jimmy loved being physically active in weightlifting and he loved running.  He was proud to have completed seven half marathons. He loved to travel and in his lifetime he visited: Spain, Japan, Guam, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, China, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece, Vatican City and Aruba.  Some of his favorite spots he visited often included Pagosa Springs, Santa Fe, Taos, Hawaii, Estes Park, 11-mile reservoir and Grand Lake.  From a young age he loved muscle cars and had a passion for dragster racing, as an adult he never missed the Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.  His pride and joy was his 2021 Corvette Stingray in his favorite color red. His musical interests included Elivs Presely and ZZ Top.

ALS slowly took the ability away from my dad to do the things that he loved and we lost him to ALS in April of 2023.  He was such a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. We will walk this walk every year so that we can honor the beautiful life he lived and the sacrifice he made for our country.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.

That’s why we’re participating in Walk ALS. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To provide resources and services to families free of charge. To help conquer the mystery of ALS and find the key to treatments a cure. Will you join us?

ABOUT ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
