Welcome to My Personal Page
Dear ALS Community Supporter,
Everyone has something that becomes their passion, their side distraction, and that brings pure joy. For me, that something is skiing. Being on the slopes was a way I connected with my family, made friends, and escaped everything when I needed to.
I began to love skiing at the age of two, almost simultaneously as I learned to walk. I spent most of each winter since two on the ski hill. I learned to ski in Vail in the 1970s, later I took the ski train to Winter Park then raced Alpine in high school in Winter Park.
As an adult, sharing my love of skiing with my kids brought many memories and proud accomplishments as they participated in the Winter Competition Center programs — Big Mountain and Alpine.
As they advanced in skiing, we spent every weekend and holiday together in Winter Park. I found a new way to share my joys of skiing. I coached 6-9 year olds for the Winter Park Competition Center's All Mountain Program. Every Saturday & Sunday for 10 years, I coached young skiers to excellence, and had the privilege of watching them grow to love the sport.
This is Why I Ski: Joy
Toward the end of my days on skis, I could not walk to the lift, yet I could still ski with coordination. On my last day on the mountain, I knew that was it. My strength had diminished, and my natural ski coordination was declining.
Losing something that brought joy, peace, and many memories might be one of the most devastating impacts of a disease that slowly takes away the use of your body.
Two years ago, I joined the Ski ALS event. The most incredible feeling was getting back on the mountain surrounded by friends, supporters, and family — Pure Joy.
Won't you join us at SKI ALS COLORADO and support ALS United Rocky Mountain & bring awareness to a disease that has no cure & takes away people's dreams?
